the real deal

GIVE ME YOUR POOR, YOUR HUNGRY AND HUDDLED MASSES;
THAT’S WHAT THE STATUE OF LIBERTY READS.
THEN WHY DO WE HAVE SO MANY CLASSES,
AND DISCRIMINATION ABOUT SEX, RACE AND CREEDS.

THAT’S NOT WHAT THIS COUNTRY WAS MADE FOR,
IT WAS FREEDOM, EQUALITY FOR WHICH WE FOUGHT
SO WHY IS THERE SO MUCH POVERTY AND RACIAL WARS.
HAVE OUR BEGINNINGS WE TRULY FORGOT?

WHY DOES IT MATTER HOW YOU APPEAR?
YOUR SEX, AGE AND THE COLOR OF YOUR SKIN.
WHY MUST WE LIVE IN HUNGER AND IN FEAR,
AND WHY MUST THE RICH ALWAYS WIN?

WE HAVE HOMELESSNESS IN THIS COUNTRY SO GREAT
AND ON TOOLS OF WAR WE SPEND.
PEOPLE WILL KEEP DYING HERE IN THIS STATE,
IF TO OTHER COUNTRIES WE CONTINUE TO LEND.

THIS IS SAID TO BE A SUPER POWER,
BUT SHE CAN’T EVEN TAKE CARE OF HER OWN.
WHILE IN THE POOR PEOPLES DARKEST HOUR,
THE GOVERNMENT WON’T GIVE THEM A HOME.

THIS IS WHY I WRITE LIKE I DO
THE TRUTH SHOULD BE KNOWN BY ALL
THIS COUNTRY THAT’S RED WHITE AND BLUE,
WILL NOT ANSWER IT’S OWN PEOPLES CALL.
